History
As the second world war was ending, and war time restrictions on the use of metals were lifted, production of architectural items was in demand to replace to the items that had been donated to melt down into the materials of war. One thing in demand, were liturgical items like church offering plates. Eugene Verhein had some experience in the trade, so he decided to purchase a machine and worked to make & sell liturgical items. Focused on this particular business, Church Metal Spinning Company was founded.
Eventually, Eugene’s sons joined him in the business, moving to their current location in 1955. The Company leveraged the metal spinning capability to add engine and equipment manufacturers as their main Customers. Donald and Gene Verhein invested in the business, developing an automatic play spin machine and investing in the first commercial laser in southeastern Wisconsin.
Kim Verhein Herro, Donald's daughter, our current owner, purchased the Company from family in 1995 and reinvigorated the Company. Her brother Mark joined her in 1998. Since then, Church Metal has invested new machinery in the Company’s core capabilities – metal spinning and forming, laser cutting and welding. Church Metal is focused on continuous improvement – investing in new machinery and in training our employees. We have grown from 14 employees in 1995 to over 40 and also doubled our manufacturing foot print.
We continue to improve our service offerings through updated machinery and training for our team of qualified spinners, formers, and laser operators. Our investments in new equipment and our people will help us to increase low-volume production up to 75,000pcs annually within the next few years.

Professional Associations
Church Metal Spinning Company has been a member of the Precision Metalforming Association for several decades. The PMA has helped Church grow and develop thru the local Wisconsin District organization, the Metal Spinning Division and national events and educational opportunities. It also helps us to drive our values and interests thru it’s Educational Foundation with targeted programs and annual scholarships to those that want to pursue education relative to the Metalforming industry. The PMA also gives voice to non-partisan concerns of the Metalforming industry in Washington DC by communicating with our representatives, participating in Agency rule making process and then communicating back on how to traverse the regulatory terrain as it develops.
Mark Verhein's participation in the Metal Spinning Division has given Church Metal Spinning Co. a greater depth of understanding of the business and the US marketplace than they had previously. In fact, we don’t know of any other organization possessing such a clear window into the Metal Spinning industry. One of the key benefits is knowing our other participating companies. When we speak to Customers, we like to be able to direct them to those companies that can best serve their requirements – even if it’s not us. If we can provide a solution to a Customer, we believe they will be more likely to check in with us for their next sourcing requirement. We also work closely with the machinery makers for our industry.
During the first few months of Covid-19, PMA’s Washington insiders gave us the information directly from the ongoing process in D.C. During this period of great uncertainty, PMA companies were given clear and effective guidance that allowed us know we were doing the right thing every step of the way. Getting peace of mind at that time was an invaluable service.
